Power project costs to increase due to delay
Srilankamirror - The estimated cost of the Broadland Hydro Power project is expected to increase due to the delays on the part of the Attorney General’s Department to prepare the relevant legal agreements.
The Broadland Hydro Power project, which is the last plant in the Laxapana complex in the Kelani River, is estimated to cost US$ 82 million.
However, the Power and Energy Ministry believes the delay would see an escalation in the cost.
Broadland is a 35MW hydro power plant that would generate 126 million units of power annually.
Power and Energy Minister Champika Ranawaka says the Broadland power project has been delayed due to the delay in finalising the commercial agreement.
