Ceylon Institute of Builders trains 400 youth in Jaffna

The Ceylon Institute of Builders (CIOB), the Training Partner of JITF 2012, has announced that the planned training programs have been successfully completed at the Jaffna International Trade Fair (JITF 2012) for the second successive year held from 20 to 22 of January at the Duraiappah Stadium, Jaffna.

The training programs commenced with the inauguration ceremony on 20 January with the attendance of CIOB President Dr. Rohan Karunaratne, Secretary Eng. Saliya Kaluarachchi and Treasurer Sagara Gunawardena, Chief Guest CCIY Chairman K. Pooranachandran and other distinguished invitees as well as heads of leading construction companies in Jaffna at the CIOB Training Pavilion.
Over 400 students from the Jaffna region with potential for careers in the building and construction industry were carefully selected to attend six training programs: roofing technology, painting, masonry, air conditioning, plumbing and steel fabrication. The series of training programs were sponsored by Rhino Roofing Products Ltd., Macksons Paints Lanka(Pvt) Ltd., Lafarge Mahaweli Cement (Pvt) Ltd., Abans Ltd., Central Industries Plc and Melwire Rolling (Pvt) Ltd. respectively.
The entire training interventions were conducted in the Tamil language by qualified professionals from Jaffna. A total of 80 students participated in each program while practical demonstrations were carried out by engineers and NVQ qualified personnel. Toolkits were donated to the potential trainees of masonry program by Lafarge Mahaweli Cement (Pvt) Ltd.
Following the successful completion of training programmes, participants were awarded with certificates during the closing ceremony with the gathering of invitees including Col.  Mahindarathne Tennakoon, Director of Melwire Rolling (Pvt) Ltd., V. Vimaleshwari, Director of National Youth Services Council, Northern Region, the Training Interventions at the CIOB Training Pavilion, on 22 January 2012.
JITF 2012 was organised by Lanka Exhibition & Conference Services (Pvt.) Ltd. (LECS) and co-organised by Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) with the support of the CCIY of Jaffna.
The training programmes were conducted by CIOB with the close collaboration with the National Youth Services Council Jaffna, the Vocational Training Authority Jaffna (VTA), the College of Technology Jaffna and Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Yarlpanam.
