First step towards Rs. 700 m hotel in Jaffna

The foundation stone laying ceremony for Jetwing Yarl Hotel in Jaffna was held yesterday with the participation of Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne along with Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.


Mercantile Merchant Bank Ltd. and the Jetwing Group through an equally-owned joint venture will invest Rs. 700 million in this hotel project.
Jetwing Yarl Hotel is to be constructed on a 46 perch land area on the Old Clock Tower Road in Jaffna. The star class hotel will have 76 rooms, be 14 storeyed and feature a rooftop swimming pool and Presidential Suite. The construction work is to be completed within 18 months.Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda, Governor of the Northern Province Major General G.A. Chandrasiri, Milinda Moragoda, Jetwing Travels Managing Director Shiromal Cooray and Jetwing Hotels Managing Director Ruwan Samarasinghe also participated at the event.
