Tense situation at SAITM Seminar: The Aftermath
The Director of the Rathnapura hospital revealed to the media that the student who was admitted into the hospital after being allegedly assaulted during seminar held to raise awareness on the Malambe Private medical college is not critical
A tense situation took place during a seminar in Rathnapura yesterday organised to raise awarness on the Private medical college in Malabe.
The seminar was organised by the Parents association of the Malabe medical college. The tense situation erupted after a group of Sabaragamuwa University students began to disrupt the seminar by raising questions.
Student receiving treatment at Ratnapura University, Buddika Deshapriya stated that they entered the hall dragged them out.
He added that as the media entered the hall Gemunu Wijeyaratne had assaulted him, Thereafter they were escorted out of the hall by the police.
Gemunu Wijeyratne noted that an individual made malicious statements. He had told them that time was allocated to express their views. Thereafter a group of their people escorted them out of the hall.
He added that he did not assault anyone since he is 55 years old and he doesn’t have the strength to hit anyone. Explaining further he noted that he has lodged a complaint with the IGP to call for an imaprtial invesitgation.
CEO of the Malabe Private Medical College, Sameera Senaratne stated that they will continue to hold seminars in the future despite the disruptions that will be caused.
He added that a tense situation had taken place in Ratnapura as well yesterday.
