‘Don’t Breathe’ tops U.S. box office in opening weekend
Opened last week, “Don’t Breathe” took the top spot at the North America box office over the weekend to beat the likes of Suicide Squad and many other top movies.
The R-rated psychological horror-thriller earned an estimated 26.1 million dollars in ticket sales.
After three weeks at number one, the comic book adaptation “Suicide Squad” moved to second place, bringing in an estimated 12.1 million dollars in ticket sales.
The subject of scathing reviews from critics, “Suicide Squad” follows a rogue group of anti-heroes with special powers who are held hostage by Gotham’s government to use as weapons to protect the city.
In its second weekend at the box office, the animated film “Kubo and the Two Strings,” featuring the voices of Charlize Theron, Ralph Fiennes and Matthew McConaughey, came in third place, earning 7.9 million dollars in sales. The 3-D fantasy adventure film is from Laika, the stop-motion animation studio also responsible for “Coraline,” “ParaNorman” and “The Boxtroll.”
