Sri Lanka imposes a fuel surcharge on electricity bills
Sri Lanka has imposed a fuel surcharge on electricity bills starting from midnight today.
The move, which comes as a result of the latest fuel price hike in the country, will see domestic electricity consumers paying a surcharge ranging from 15% to 40%, depending on their monthly usage.
Industrial customers and hoteliers will be imposed with a standard fuel surcharge of 15% out of their total electricity bill.
According to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka, domestic electricity consumers who consume between 0-30 units per month will be imposed with a 25% fuel surcharge.
The ones who consume in-between 31-60 units will be imposed a 35% fuel surcharge while bills with 61 units and above will be charged a fuel surcharge of 40%.
