Police fire tear gas at protesters in Dambulla
Police fired tear gas to disperse a group of protesters who demonstrated, obstructing the main road opposite the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.
A group of persons who arrived at the location, attempted to obtain tickets even after Sri Lanka Cricket,on a prior occasion, released a notice stating that tickets for today’s match have been sold out. The situation thereafter aggravated.
The police was called to control the protesters. However, this resulted in a tense situation between cricket fans and the police. Police then fired tear gas to disperse the protestors.
According to Sri Lanka Cricket, a total of around 18,000 cricket fans had arrived at the Dambulla International Cricket stadium to catch a glimpse of today’s match.
