Cricketers salary issue resolved
The Sports Ministry says the salary issue of the Sri Lankan cricketers has now been resolved with the Bank of Ceylon agreeing to release Rs.600 million to meet the commitment.
As a result of the discussion the Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage had with the Chairman and the Board officials of the Bank of Ceylon along with the officials of the Sri Lanka Cricket to resolve player payments of Sri Lanka Cricket, the Bank of Ceylon agreed to release Rs.600, the Sports Ministry said.
Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, instructed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to pay the pending salaries up to the month of February to its contracted cricketers by February 28, 2012, the Ministry further said.
The player payments for the month of March 2012 would be paid on time, the Minister stated.
Minister Aluthgamage also in writing, had instructed the officials of SLC not to overlook contract payments in the future and Sri Lanka Cricket should take the full responsibility to ensure that the player payments are made on time in the future, the Ministry further added.
