‘Burden of expropriated enterprises too, on the masses’
(Srilankamirror) - The government has further weighed down the people by placing the burden of the private enterprises taken over under the expropriation act on them as well, said UNP national organizer Daya Gamage.
Speaking to the media at the office of the leader of the opposition in Colombo yesterday (Feb. 19), he said the masses should be given relief even by closing down loss-incurring state institutions.
The people have stood up on their own accord, without any urging by the UNP, against the government’s grave injustices to them, he said.
Mr. Gamage noted that Sri Lanka’s foreign debt, which stood at 250 billion US dollars during the previous regime of Chandrika Kumaratunga, has shot up to 9,500 billion USD under the Rajapaksa government.
