Chilaw fishermen relent following bishop’s mediation
(Srilankamirror) - Fishermen of Chilaw today (Feb. 22) decided to end their more than one week long boycott and return to their profession following a request by the bishop of the area.
The agreement came at a meeting attended by the bishop of Chilaw, politicians, including north western province fisheries minister Sanath Nishantha, the Chilaw divisional secretary and fishermen’s union representatives.
Representatives of fishermen’s unions pointed out on the occasion the need to revise the kerosene oil price and a practicable subsidy provision.
