Lunar eclipse to be visible over Sri Lanka tonight
According to Prof. Chandana Jayaratne (Department of Physics at the University of Colombo), a Lunar eclipse can be sighted between 10.24 p.m tonight and 2.23 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday).
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly behind the Earth into its shadow.
This can occur only when the Sun, Earth and Moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, a lunar eclipse can occur only the night of a full moon
