More than Rs. 16,300,000 spent on former minister Basil Rajapaksa’s internal flights and other expenses is the responsibility of then Secretary of the Minister P.B. Jayasundara and the accountants states Shavendra Fernando PC, the counselor for Mr. Basil Rajapaksa.

Making a statement before Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC) Mr. Rajapaksa’s cousel stated the money ws spent not with a direct involvement of Mr. Basil Rajapaksa and he need not be responsible for the money spent after the officials had approved such expenses. President’s Counsel Shavendra Fernando stated that Mr. Basil Rajapaksa had merely acted according to the spending approved by the officials.

Investigations carried out by PRECIFAC have revealed that Rs.155,400,000 had been spent from ‘Gama Neguma’ project for internal flights in SL Air Force aircraft, millions of public money had been spent to buy fuel for 14 luxury vehicles valued at Rs.3,744,000,000, had deployed 151 Army and Navy soldiers for the security of Rajapaksa family.

All these matters were revealed before PRECIFAC by Senior State Counsel Janaka Bandara with the supervision of Senior IP Ranjith Rajapaksha on written evidence revealed in investigations carried out by SI Herath.
