All Sri Lankans should unite to respond to the world – Acting Media Minister
Acting Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena has underscored that all Sri Lankans, whatever views they possess within Sri Lanka, should act in unity in responding to the world. The Acting Minister said that the resolution has alleged that Sri Lanka had violated Human Rights Law, contravened international conventions in its treatment of terrorists, and breached its obligations in the treatment of IDPs. All Sri Lankans devoid of party, colour and other affiliations should understand the current situation being faced by Sri Lanka. He pointed out that if there were any problems about human rights violations the Government would not have ventured to appoint the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission.
The Minister was addressing a seminar themed “Challenges and International Forces Against Sri Lanka” held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. It was organized by the Government Information Department. Chairman of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and veteran media personality Mohan Samaranayake, Senior Attorney at Law Gomin Dayasiri and Economist Ranjith Bandara delivered special addresses.
Senior Attorney Gomin Dayasiri said that the United States was harassing Sri Lanka as they feared that the Third World would adopt the accelerated development programme mooted by the country as a model.
