Sri Lanka Cricket Awards 2016

Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to unreservedly regret the inconvenience caused to invitees at the Dialog Cricket Awards 2016 held at the Water’s Edge Grand Ballroom on 30th December 2016 caused by the delay in commencement of the event.

Due to the unanticipated traffic situation caused by a massive protest at the Parliament roundabout and roads leading thereto during the mid-afternoon, several VIP guests as well as award recipients informed Sri Lanka Cricket that they would not be able to reach the venue in time.

Accordingly a decision was made to delay the commencement of the ceremony by 30 minutes in order to allow the guests, and especially award recipients to arrive at the venue.

Sri Lanka Cricket also wishes to strongly deny the allegations that the media were restricted from attending the event, and inform the general public that there were over 60 media invitees who included Journalists, Editors, News Directors and Senior Management of Media Organizations. Coverage passes were issued to 12 photo and video journalists who requested them, and no photo or video journalist was restricted from coverage of the Award Ceremony.

Furthermore arrangements were made to provide all television stations with additional production footage for live updates as well as a highlights package at their request.

In the best interests of our invaluable relationship with the media, an internal inquiry will be conducted to ascertain if any employee had communicated otherwise to the media and strict action will be taken in the event of any such communication.
