News Butterfly, the unique TV programme from the US’ FOX news network, is now filming in Colombo for an exclusive segment on Sri Lanka’s new upswing. News Butterfly Market Place (NBMP) is described as a ‘unique women’s movement on TV’. According to NBMP, ‘the programme is a TV Channel venture for beautiful and talented women from across the globe, with a passion for TV journalism. They call themselves as ‘News Butterflies’ and become TV anchors or actors on News Butterfly and advertise or promote their products, services or business on Newsbutterfly TV.

The programme, played on such networks as Time Warner, Comcast, Direct TV and Dish Network, reaches a powerful niche segment of an estimated seven million households in the US, with 70% of the audience being women with 35% of the audience in the 35-49 age group and 43% being over 50.

A star presenter of the programme who arrived to film the Expo 2012 on 28 March was Creighton Amber, who is planning to promote Sri Lanka to the NBMP’s seven million audience in her forthcoming segments. She said: “Sri Lanka is really beautiful and has a surprising array of products for export to the US, which I intend to highlight. The product diversity itself is something to talk about.”  
The Sri Lanka Expo 2012 concluded successfully on 31 March and now Sri Lanka plans to hold it once in every two years. Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen, under whose Ministry the Expo organisers the Export Development Board functions, has already announced that he is planning the next Expo in early 2014 under the directive of President Rajapaksa.
Expo 2012 saw 1,385 international participants, exceeding the set target of 1,000 international visitors, which included trade buyers, ministerial delegations, investors, foreign employment companies and outbound tour operators from across the world. The event not only attracted visitors from Sri Lanka’s main markets such as USA and Europe, but even from emerging markets such as Cyprus, Russia, Brazil and Turkey, with encouraging participation from Asia.
