World Health Day observed
World Health Day is being observed with a view to direct people around the world, towards a healthy lifestyle through the practice of healthy habits.
Sri Lankans have joined in observing the World Health Day under the theme of developing healthy habits and prevention of non-communicable diseases. Forty people die daily in Sri Lanka due to stroke and 150 due to heart problems. The Health Ministry says that around 10,000 people die annually from cancer. The people become prey to non communicable diseases due to unhealthy food habits, stress, consumption of liquor and smoking and lack of exercise. A programme has been launched at the provincial level to raise awareness in the people about a healthy lifestyle. A healthy population is required for the development and the future of the country. It is important to be determined to achieve a healthy life through the practice of healthy habits
