Asia disturbed by the Sumatra earthquake- Tsunami warning for Sri Lanka lifted

The entire Asia was disturbed along with an earthquake which hit the Sumatra Islands in Indonesia today.
The tsunami warning issued for Sri Lanka was lifted by the Meteorological Department. The Met Dept said that Sri Lanka was safe and there was no need to panic as there was no longer a tsunami threat.

The 8.9 magnitude earthquake struck off the western coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, triggering the tsunami warning for 28 countries. The earthquake struck at a depth of 33km, at a location about 495km southwest of Banda Aceh on the island of Sumatra. Another major after shock was also reported at around 4.13 p.m.
In Sri Lanka, tsunami alerts were issued and the people in the coastal belt were evacuated to highlands. All of them have now taken shelter in secure areas. The Department of Meteorology has called on them to remain in these areas, following the aftershocks that were reported.
