Samantha joins AMW Capital Leasing as Managing Director
Top professional Samantha Rajapaksa has joined AMW Capital Leasing Plc as the Managing Director of the venture which is part of UAE’s Al-Futtaim Group.
Rajapaksa’s entry into AMW Group follows him leaving Softlogic Holdings Plc, where he was a Director having joined the Group in 2008. He was also the Director and CEO of Softlogic Communications Ltd.
AMW Capital Leasing is 90% owned by Associated Motorways Ltd., (AMW) which is now under the Al Futtaim Group. It also recently entered in to the insurance industry launching Orient Insurance, a wholly owned subsidiary of UAE giant Arab Orient Insurance.

The leasing firm has Rs. 3.6 billion in assets and for the year ended on 31 December 2011, posted a Rs. 194 million net profit, up by 33% over the previous year. Income grew by 33% to Rs. 643 million whilst profit before operating expenses grew by 40% to Rs. 485.4 million.
Profit from operations amounted to Rs. 301 million, up by 25% over 2010.
Al-Futtaim is structured into six operational divisions: automotive, retail, new strategic growth, financial services, real estate and construction and joint ventures. Originally established in the 1930s as a trading company, today Al-Futtaim operates in more than 70 countries and employs over 30,000 people across UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia and Europe.
He is a MBA holder from the University of Sri Jayawardenepura. He is also a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA), Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (FCA) and holds a Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (London) and is an Associate of Cisco, USA. He has many years of experience both local and overseas behind him having worked at Senior Managerial positions in reputed companies.
