Ranaviru Commemoration Month launched under President’s patronage
The National Ranaviru Commemoration Months begins. The launching ceremony took place at Temple Trees under the patronage of President Rajapaksa.
The War Heroes Commemoration month will continue until the 31st of next month. Chairperson of the Ranaviru Seva Authority Pathma Wettewa pinned onto the President the first Ranaviru flag launching the Commemoration month.
Invitees including Provincial Governors were presented with Ranaviru flags. Funds collected from the sale of Ranaviru flags last year were handed over by the Governors to the President who in turn handed over these funds to the Chairperson of the Rana Viru Seva Authority. In parallel to this event, the President also launched the official website of the Rana Viru Seva Authority www.ranaviruseva.gov.lk.
A meeting between Vishmi Lakshini and Nikini Thurushika, daughters of war heroes who sacrificed their lives during the final stage of the humanitarian operation, took place on this occasion. Deputy Minister Geethanjana Gunawardena, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the Chief of Defence Staff, Heads of the Armed Forces, the IGP and officials of the Rana Viru Seva Authority and the Defence Ministry were present on the occasion.
