Hatton National Bank (HNB), one of the leading debit and credit card issuers in Sri Lanka, is to add value to its Visa Debit Card as well as Credit Card brands soon, offering attractive discounts and special offers, worldwide acceptability, new opportunities and convenience.
HNB’s Assistant General Manager – Premier and Electronic Banking P. Sridharan said that the continuous product benefits of debit and credit cards are aimed at providing convenient customer services.

It has been planned to introduce personalised products to match customer lifestyles, whilst remaining affordable, he added. HNB Super Shopper initiative has been launched to provide many benefits to the bank’s valued customers, he said.
Sridharan noted that HNB was encouraging the use of visa debit cards, thereby avoiding cash transactions. “With over millions of outlets worldwide and around 20,000 POS outlets countrywide accepting Visa Debit, you won’t need to carry cash with you!”
Bank customers can access their own money conveniently for direct purchases and Internet shopping with the HNB Visa Debit card. Unlike a credit card, a debit card has no credit facility, but offers the convenience and security of Visa. Further, it provides the customer to pay for their purchases by directly debiting their primary card account and not withdrawing excess monies for their purchases he said.
The Super Shopper Card can also be linked with the customer’s other accounts for ATM withdrawals, fund transfers, utility bill payments, etc., he added.
The HNB Visa Debit Card is available to any HNB customer with a savings, current, NRFC, individual/joint or proprietorship account. It can be used locally and internationally at merchants that accept MasterCards and Visa cards, he revealed.
Sridharan pointed out that HNB customers could access their accounts from the ATM net work numbering 400 and other bank ATMs which carry the Visa logo. The bank has tied up with over 100 merchant outlets to cater special discounts to the needs of customers. They can purchase their requirements and obtain services from any of these outlets using Visa Debit Cards and also on credit cards issued by the HNB.
The bank recently offered very attractive discounts from 10% to 30% for its Gold, Silver and Platinum Credit Card at the leading hotels in the island.
Further, the bank had a very successful Avurudu promo islandwide with a special promotion in the Jaffna Peninsula.
“Many concessions are provided to our cardholders covering fashion, household and other, automobile, lifestyle, healthcare and miscellaneous at over 100 merchant outlets (visit our website www.hnb.net). These facilities will be effective till 31 December 2012,” said Manager Roshantha Jayatunge.
He disclosed that the bank was continuing its ongoing promotion campaign in addition to giving value to the current card users through more innovative value additions that other credit cards do not offer. Different types of partner merchants that range from housing, furniture, accessories and clothing etc., where card holders are entitled to varied discounts throughout the year, Jayatunge said.
“HNB Debit and Credit Cards can be considered as the most rewarding card, presenting benefits to customers without complex or unreasonable conditions,” Upali Elapata, Chief Manager – Card Centre added.
“HNB Credit Card as well as the Debit card has become the preferred card when customers do their shopping and this is why we have continued to add value to our cards via discounts through our wide merchant network.”
Nalin Dissanayake, Asst. Manager – Acquiring reiterated that these value additions would provide a compelling reason for the bank’s cardholders to use HNB Super Shopper Debit Card and Credit Cards for shopping and other wide range of payment facilities.
