CNCI encourage exports to Western markets with industry benefits

The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI), the pioneering Industry Chamber in Sri Lanka has organised an interesting and stimulating seminar presentation on marketing and gaining access to western markets, EU and USA and the facilities and benefits available to Sri Lankan industry and manufacturing sectors.

The seminar presentation is expected to take place on Wednesday 23 May at the Mahaweli Centre Auditorium, Ananada Coomaraswamy Mawatha Colombo 7.  
Sri Lankan exports has become a subject of much concern, since it has become quite evident that total export earnings are much lower than total expenditure incurred on imports to Sri Lanka.
Government statistics show that the cost of imports has risen to massive USD 1,581 million as compared with the export earnings of USD 879 million, indicating that export revenue earnings are almost half the cost expenditure of imports.
Since the continuation of the above trend is expected to bring about negative results it could affect the national economy unless the current trend is controlled in a meaningful manner.
In order to create a positive trend and enthusiastic attitude, CNCI has organised the above seminar presentation with the participation of some well known officials who are best to comment, advise and update professionals who trade and export to western countries in EU and USA markets. The presenters who will take up this most significant and vital subject matter will be the Director General of Commerce, the Director General Commercial of the Ministry of External affairs, the Economics and Commercial Attaché of the EU delegation of Sri Lanka and Maldives, the SLEDB Directors of Marketing and Development and the Director Commercial of the US Embassy in Colombo.
As stated by the CNCI Secretary General/CEO Kumara Kandalama, the chamber has identified this subject as of utmost importance since the subject of marketing and exporting to Western European markets has a pivotal role to play in the Sri Lankan economy.
The objective of this seminar will be to provide insight, encourage and update the industry and manufacturing sectors with the current trend and to equip them with additional information, so that the export sector will be stimulated and more export opportunities will be realised by the Sri Lankan industries.

 During the seminar presentation, the current status of trading in EU countries/the methods of entering in to EU/USA, the observations from the EU delegation in relation to the Sri Lankan industry, the current tax/tariff/ duty obligations, the oncoming  new certification   requirements such as the Food Obligation Act and market opportunities, the services and facilities available through the Sri Lankan Institutions, Department and the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of External Affairs and the Sri Lankan Export Development Board , the net work of Sri Lankan Trade Commissioners in the Western World and their services etc will be discussed and clarified during the presentations.  The participants will also have an opportunity to have a friendly dialog with the Government and embassy officials.  The existing and potential new ambitious industrialists, exporters, garment sector enterprises, distributors, banking, financial, legal officials, policy makers, regulators, marketing enterprises, international trading agencies and other export oriented individuals and  institutions are expected to gain benefits through this event.
