Poson festival in historic Thanthirimale

The Poson festival in historic Thanthirimale will be sponsored by the state from this year.

The programme is being implemented on a proposal of the Chief Minister of the North-central Province Berty Premalal Dissanayake. Arrangements have been made to celebrate the festival on a grand scale in an organized
manner. A meeting in this connection was held at the Anuradhapura district secretariat under the patronage of the Chief Incumbent of the Thanthirimale Raja Maha Vihare Ven. Thanthirimale Chandaratana Thera. Government officials including Deputy Minister Duminda Dissanayake participated in the meeting. It was decided to celebrate the Poson festival on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th giving priority to alms giving, Sil and meditation programmes. The festival will be coloured by lantern and puppet displays and Bhakthi gee recitals. Four Dansalas will be organized in the sacred area for the convenience of the devotees. More than two million people are expected to visit Thanthirimale.
