Arogya 2012 to promote local health sector

With open economic policies, the health sector in Sri Lanka has shown a significant development during the last few years. With the increasing population, which has now reached 20.8 million, there was a dire need for the country to improve her healthcare facilities and this requirement is now being fulfilled by both public and private sectors. Sri Lanka presently has a number of modernised hospitals owned by the state and the private sector.
Patients from neighbouring countries such as Maldives use these facilities making Colombo an important healthcare centre. The country has also been able to retain many patients who earlier sought medical treatment overseas with the health sector development in the recent past.

The country has a pool of well qualified medical professionals, so much so that our healthcare sector is not second to the health sector in any country in the SAARC region. Advanced healthcare facilities that were confined to Colombo earlier have now been spread to many parts of the country. The Government, under its development plan has invited investments, both local and foreign, to invest in the Healthcare sector projects outside Colombo especially in the North and East of Sri Lanka.
Arogya 2012 International Healthcare Exhibition to be held from 17 to 19 August at BMICH, Colombo organised by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka in partnership with the Ministry of Health will expose to the world and to Sri Lanka itself the country’s strength in the healthcare sector and the future potential.
A National Chamber spokesmen said, “We expect many medical related industries and services such as hospitals, clinics, laboratories, pharmaceuticals, nutrition, health food, e-channelling, health education, medical equipment suppliers and many others engaged in the healthcare sector to display their products and services and to explain to the public about their services and development projects. In addition to the private sector exhibitors, provincial health departments are also expected to display their development projects and special achievements in the sector.
This will be an ideal place for the provincial health departments to benchmark their performances with their counterparts in other regions.
We also expect many exhibitors, especially the pharmaceuticals and medical equipment providers from SAARC region to display their products and services at Arogya 2012.”
Already a number of stalls have been reserved by many major players in the sector such as Nawaloka Hospitals, Ninewells Mother and Baby care Hospital, Asiri Group of Hospitals, Lanka Hospital, Delmege Medical (Pvt) Ltd, Astron Ltd, e-Channelling, Fair Pharma (Pvt) Ltd, Bio Extracts, Asian Alliance etc
Arogya 2012 is sponsored by Nawaloka Hospitals and Asiri Group of Hospitals as co-sponsors. Nawaloka Hospital is the official Cardiac Partner for the exhibition and Asiri Hospital is the official Laboratory Partner. Ninewells Mother and Baby care Hospital is the official Gynecology Partner.
