Parliamentarian Tiran Alles yesterday met President Mahinda Rajapaksa to discuss about the release of former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.
Speaking to Daily FT Alles said that he met President Rajapakse Wednesday morning at the Temple Trees to discuss the release of Fonseka. “We discussed the pending issues which have to be sorted out. Hopefully Fonseka should be released as fast as possible,” he said.

When asked whether Fonseka will be granted full pardon Alles said, “Those are details we have to go into. My main aim is to first get him out of prison. We can look into all the other matters later.”
Alles had later visited Fonseka who is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital and informed him about the meeting with President Rajapakse.
However, inside sources reveals that President is to make the announcement of Fonseka’s release by 19 May. Coincidently the country will be celebrating the third year anniversary of defeating Tamil tigers on 19 May.  According to sources President Rajapakse was to inform Cabinet yesterday about the decision to release Fonseka.
The Hindu newspaper recently quoted Sri Lankan President saying that former Army Commander is to be released in future. When the matter was raised by United National Party delegation during a meeting with the President early this week, President Rajapakse had said that he is to discuss the matter with Tiran Alles and that Fonseka should be released after that.
