Activated carbon manufacturer gets new life under PCH Holdings wings

Bieco Link, one of the largest activated carbon manufacturers in Sri Lanka has gained a new lease of life with fresh business direction and the latest engineering enhancements under the new management of PCH Holdings.
Following the successful acquisition of Orient Garments, Bieco Link is the latest milestone in PCH Holdings’ plans for business diversification and expansion.

Bieco Link which has been engaged in manufacturing activated carbon since 1988, will, under its new management, be upgraded with new machinery, engineering and technological advancements and value addition to their product portfolio.
Currently Bieco Link is one of the largest in the country in terms of capacity in producing activated carbon, manufacturing approximately 7,500 metric tons annually. The company exports primarily to USA, UK, Japan and South Africa.
“This acquisition has given us a great opportunity to reinvent our brand under a new management and we have some exciting plans to develop the company immensely,” Bieco Link Director Jude Fernando said.
 “Being the only company in Sri Lanka using both vertical and rotary furnaces kilns in the manufacturing process of activated carbon, BIECO LINK utilises 100% environmentally friendly processes to produce activated carbon. These techniques enable improved efficiency and production of large quantities of activated carbon,” another Director Zhang Guanglu added.
 “Our goal has always been to expand into innovative new areas and markets and this acquisition has helped us achieve this even further. We’re also looking at creating many direct and indirect job opportunities for Sri Lankans through BIECO LINK and our many subsidiary companies,” PCH Holdings Chairman S.H.M. Rishan said.
Striving to improve product quality, process efficiency, energy conservation and reliability the company has invested immensely in research and development in order to provide value addition to the process of activated carbon production. With new direction of the PCH Holdings Limited, BLC is now ventured into new spheres in the industry such as manufacturing of high end and specialised value additions of activated carbon, industry specific applications, thermal power generation, etc.
In order to nurture and sustain a healthier environment by preventing pollution in the production processes and all areas of applications of products, the company has made a firm commitment towards being green. This includes using alternative carbonising and gasification processes to generate the heat required in the production of activated carbon where coconut shells are substituted for fuel and electricity to ensure minimal consumption of fossil fuels.
Bieco Link Carbons Pte Ltd is a fully owned subsidiary of PCH Holdings Ltd., Bieco Link Carbons Ltd., was established in October, 1987 to manufacture activated carbon from coconut shell charcoal. Present day BLC specialises in the production of activated carbon using coconut shells and other natural resources. BLC’s strength lies in its ability to manufacture consistently high quality products with wide range of applications, including but not limited to, air purification, gold recovery, gas purification and water treatment.
