Standard Chartered Bank commemorates World Environment Day 2012

To mark World Environment Day 2012 on 5th June, Standard Chartered Bank assisted the Colombo Municipal Council in a tree planting campaign. Some 30 trees – kumbuk and ehala – were planted in the Vihara Maha Devi Park, and the occasion, initiated by A J M Muzammil, Mayor of Colombo, was graced by. A H M Fowzie, Minister for Urban Affairs, Alavi Moulana, Governor of the Western Province, and Prasanna Ranatunga, Chief Minister of the Western Province Provincial Council as well as Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar, CEO Standard Chartered Bank.

Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar, commenting on the event said “The Vihara Maha Devi Park is not only a beautiful place of rest and recreation for the city’s Minister the Vihara Maha Devi Park to commemorateinhabitants but it also functions, very importantly, as a lung for the city. We are pleased to be associated with the Prasanna Ranatunga planting a treeColombo Municipal Council in improving the Park and its environs”. Standard Chartered Bank last year funded the complete refurbishment of the flower beds flanking the walkways leading into the Park from the main gates.
This year the bank further strengthened its association with the Park by assisting the Colombo Municipal Council with its World Environment Day initiative.
At this year’s tree planting campaign, the Mayor of Colombo, the Minister, the Governor of the Western Province and the Chief Minister participated in the planting of trees together with the Chief Executive Officer and members of the Management Committee of Standard Chartered Bank.
