Three wins by Colts, Chilaw Marians and BRC were registered in the Major League Tier A Tournament 2017-’18  that got underway during the week-end. Colts won their Group A match by an innings and 55 runs against Bloomfield at Colts grounds, BRC beat Sri Lanka Ports Authority by 35 runs in a Group B match at BRC grounds and Chilaw Marians beat NCC by 94 runs in another Group B match at Katunayake.

Colts, batting first piled up 400 with H. Dumindu striking an unbeaten 168 off 306 balls and M. Shiraz 65. Bloomfield were shot out for 151 and 194. Shehan Jayasuriya with 7 for 26 and 4 for 56 had a match bag of 11 for 78 runs.

In a low scoring match, Chilaw Marians taking first lease made 206 with K.V. Adhikari scoring 50 and M.A.R.S. Fernando 38 not out. NCC replied with 128.

Chilaw Marians made a fast response in the second essay totaling 132 in only 20.2 overs. Embuldeniya had figures of 5 for 56 and 5 for 57 for a 10-wicket match bag.

 NCC, requiring 211 to win folded up for 116 with Milinda Pushpakumara claiming 5 for 25 and S.C. Serasinghe 4 for 48..

Having been put in to bat BRC made 187 in 65.5 overs with J.R.M.V.B. Sanjaya top scoring with 51 whil H.H. Ramanayake made 28. N.C. Kamasaru claimed 3 wickets 40 and M.A. Liyanapathiranage 3 for 41 respectively. Port Authority totaled 192 in 65.3 overs helped by a 103-run knock by K.Y. de Silva off 201 balls. M.A. Liyanapathiranage was unbeaten on 30.

  1. Randiv 3 for 49 and E.M.C.D. Edirisinghe 3 for 40 were the pick of the bowlers for BRC. BRC were dismissed for 126 in the second innings with W.W.W.L. Lakshan making 48. Liyanapathiranage took 4 for 48 for a match bag of 7 wickets with Adeel Malik claiming 3 for 29. Needing 122 to win Ports Authority flopped for 86 in 38.5 overs with T.N. Sampath claiming 3 for 18 and Sanjaya 2 for 19.

Ratnayake took 5 for 156 and S.A. Fernando 4 for 114 for Moors replied with 375 on the back of K.P.A. Perera 142 off 184 balls and 111 by I.S.S. Samarasooriya off 196 balls.. D.K.R.C. Jayatissa claimed 4 for 53 and  S.S.M. Perera 3 for 67. Saracens made 208 for 7 the second innings anchored by K.V.N. Nirmal 70 off 124 and S.S.M. Perera 50 off 65, M.A.S.  Tamil Union drew with Badureliya SC at Kalutara in a Group A match. Tamil Union taking first lease rattled 332 on an unbeaten 119-run knock off 167 balls by D.M. Saratrhchandra and B.M.A.J. Mendis 77 off 146. A.A.S. Silva 5 for 106 and D. Gunaratne 3 for 83 wer th pick of bowlers for Badureliya who were shot out for 196 in 64.1 overs despite a century 100 off 167 balls by P. Nissanka. The wreckers were R.L.B. Rambukwella 6 for 40      and B. Fernando 2 for 26. Tamil Union declared the second innings on 182 for 5. Set 319 to win, Badureliya were 167 for 6 at stumps.
