DMS Electronics (DMSE), one of Sri Lanka’s most experienced and innovative software solution providers, recently hosted a seminar with VMware under the theme of ‘Beyond Virtualisation’.
The event focused on the possibilities for advanced virtualisation of data centres – including disaster recovery, security and virtualisation of business-critical applications – offered to local companies by both DMSE and VMware.

The event saw a host of CIOs, IT experts and members of the local IT community come together for presentations and an interactive panel discussion. The resource panel included a number of key VMware executives from India.
Speaking at the event, Lal Chandranath, Managing Director of DMS Electronics Ltd. stated: “DMSE has been an Enterprise-level partner with VMware for more than a year and, together, we have executed some significant projects for many local companies. Virtualising data centres are definitely the next step for many Lankan companies, and this seminar is an opportunity for us to showcase the many advantages of implementing virtualisation in your organisation.”
The presenters at the event included Balaji Rao, Director Sales, VMware SAARC & India, and Vivekanand Biradar, Systems Engineer, VMware India & SAARC. Thilanka Mendis and Rushdie Rizwie, Systems Engineers from DMSE took the audience through some local case studies. Seema Ambastha, Director Technical Services, VMware SAARC & India and Ganesan Arumugam, Director Channel & Alliances, VMware SAARC & India joined in a panel discussion that followed.
A range of topics and issues were addressed by the speakers, including the manageability, high availability and disaster recovery solutions facilitated by the VMware product suite, the business case for virtualisation, security in a virtualised environment and VMware’s commitment toward development of the local market.
Speaking further, Balaji Rao said, “Virtualisation is the way of the future and the benefits it offers companies can be immense. It enables a company to optimise its IT infrastructure and create an extremely flexible and resilient computing infrastructure while also enabling security.”
Commenting on the Sri Lankan virtualisation market, Ganesan said, “Many Sri Lankan companies have been experimenting with virtualisation for non-critical business applications for a while. The next step would be to place their business-critical applications in a virtualised environment. More Indian companies are beginning to do this now and we see the same trend emerging in Sri Lanka.”
Ganesan also revealed that VMware works closely with leading software vendors so that a broad range of applications are validated on the VMware platform. He also said that VMware works with leading hardware and storage suppliers so that their platforms are optimised to work with VMware cloud infrastructure.
DMSE is an active VMware partner and has implemented virtualisation solutions for leading organisations in the financial services, insurance, aviation and manufacturing sectors. DMSE also prides itself of having carried out the first VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager deployment – VMware’s cost effective disaster recovery product – in this region.
Incorporated in 1981, DMS Electronics (DMSE) carries a complete suite of industry leading hardware and software products like VMware, Microsoft, HP, Citrix, Symantec, Aspect, VeriFone, TouchMedia and Plantronics which the company puts together to provide complete ICT solutions. DMSE’s wide customer base includes some of the largest enterprises in Sri Lanka and extends down to small and medium scale businesses and individuals.
