Colombo city’s grandest celebration of ‘Fête de la Musique’ (International Music Day) this year is hosted by the Alliance Francaise de Kotte and will take place on 21 June from 4 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. at the BMICH with free admission.

Sri Lanka thus joins France and numerous other cities around the world on the same day to celebrate all kinds of music and musicians of all walks of life.
21 June is the first day of summer and the longest day in the year. The whole of France breaks into a massive celebration of music song and dance on this day making music and partying late into the night. Celebrations take place all over – in village squares, in town centres, in the Metro, in churches and cathedrals, on the banks of the river Seine, in hospitals and other public places – as France says au-revoir to spring and heralds in the joys of summer.
Music has no boundaries and so what began as a French event way back in 1981 is today a massive international event embracing and unifying the continents of the world.
Fondation Alliance Francaise Representative in Sri Lanka and Director of Alliance Française de Kotte Bertrand Dufieux stated, “In keeping with its original spirit, Fête de la Musique celebrations will take place in the great outdoors at the BMICH, open to all and free of charge. As usual, the idea is to reunite all music lovers around a joyful gathering ‘en musique!’”
Come and listen to the students of Alliance Française de Kotte, the beat drummers, Ravibandhu Vidiyapathi, Out of Time, Natasha Nathaniel, Billy Fernando, Rajhu, Pabalu, Asvajith and Shyam and many others to discover and enjoy!
