President, Indian PM hold talks in Rio
President Mahinda Rajapaksa held bi lateral talks with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday during which they discussed economic relations particularly the Sampur coal power project which is being undertaken as a joint venture between the two countries.
The talks were held on the side lines of the Rio 20 summit in Brazil.
The two leaders noted that the dialogue on security related issues would be taken n forward on the June 29 when the Indian National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon would be visiting Colombo.
President Rajapaksa had referred to the situation within Sri Lanka and mentioned the continuing discussions on the issue of devolution, a news release from the Indian High Commission in Colombo said.
The Indian Prime Minister had once again underlined the great importance India attaches to the ability of the Tamil people to lead a life of dignity and as equal citizens of that country, it added.
