Ranaviru families in Badulla are adorned with Utthama Pooja medals
Utthama Pooja medals have been awarded to Ranaviru families within the Badulla District.
The Utthama Pooja Tribute Festival was held at the Sri Lanka Air Force base in Diyatalawa. The Chief Guest was Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. 3387 members of 1873 ‘Ranaviru’ families received the ‘Uttama Pooja’ medals. Addressing the gathering, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa emphasized that the services discharged by the valiant heroes will continuously be acclaimed and that the Government will not hesitate to meet the responsibilities of all Ranaviru families.
Speaking at the ceremony the Secretary Defence said that the sacrifices made by the valiant soldiers in the three decade long war against terrorism were boundless and the commitment and support of their next of kin were tremendous. The Government was discharging a valuable service on behalf of the war heroes as well as their patents and relatives.
Action has been taken to make an allocation in this budget to pay a high salary for all parents. In addition to appreciating the services discharged by the gallant soldiers, the Defence Secretary added that the Government had rendered an outstanding service which had hitherto not been rendered on their behalf.
Ministry of Defence together with the Ranaviru Seva Authority had jointly organized this felicitation ceremony. Air Force Commander Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrema and President of the Ranaviru Seva Authority Padma Wettewa and Senior Officials of the Security Forces were present on the occasion.
