President inaugurates stadium in Nawalapitiya

The President has inaugurated the Jayatillake stadium in Nawalapitiya realizing the aspiration of taking sports to the village.
The objective of Mahinda Chintana is to build 25 sports complexes to introduce sports to the villages. The Jayatillake stadium built in Nawalapitiya under this programme was vested in the public by the President today. It was constructed at the cost of 250 million rupees. It has training facilities for 25 sports, space to accommodate 5,000 spectators and an 8 lane swimming pool. A rugby match was held following the inauguration. The Sports Ministry is implementing the sports plan under the theme of ‘sports for all’. The plan envisages to make the country the sports hub of Asia in 2016 by constructing 314 stadiums at the regional level and 25 stadiums at the district level. After the inauguration the President said that the work will be continued to create sportsmen of international calibre and to create a strong and healthy generation.
The President said that providing sports facilities at village, provincial, district and regional levels is successfully being carried out. He said that the objective is to develop the hidden talents in the youths.
Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage also addressed the gathering. Deputy Minister Abdul cader, Chief Minister of the Central Province Sarath Ekanayake were amongst those who participated in the occasion.
