No power cuts despite water scarcity – Minister Patali
Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka has emphasized that the Government is not prepared to impose power cuts despite the prevalence of a drastic water scarcity. At a news conference, he called on the public to use electricity sparingly and extend their maximum contribution in this respect.
The Minister assured that power can be supplied uninterrupted without imposing any cut. They had no doubt about it. He said that the water can be preserved until the arrival of rains in September. But power should be used sparingly. Also, everyone should be dedicated to save 10 percent of power in their homes as this is a national issue.
The supply of drinking water has been controlled in addition to the supply of water for agriculture. Power is supplied continuously. However, the Minister pointed out that as a national drive, every house should be converted into a people’s power plant.
Sans any political differences, the Minister said that he was making an appeal to the people to support them. He added that national unity is vital to surmount challenges during such crises.
