Another peace keeping mission to Lebanon
Sri Lankan army personnel left to Lebanon for a peace keeping mission in Lebanon. The team includes seventy five soldiers , three officers and four sniffer dogs trained to detect explosives. Picture shows sniffer dogs with their handlers at the departure lounge in Katunayaka airport.
Earliar on Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasekara speaking to local media said the country had earned a considerable income from United Nations peacekeeping operations in other countries.
According to Brigadier Wanigasekara Sri Lanka has earned in excess of Rs 18.4 billion from its peacekeeping operations around the world since 2004.
Since 2004, Sri Lanka has had a deployment of 950 soldiers to the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). Another 200 peacekeepers serve in Lebanon. There are also military observers posted with the UN in African nations of DR Congo, Western Sahara and Sudan.
