Launch of ‘Hand Book of Basic Law for Lawyers and Laymen’ today

A book titled ‘Hand Book of Basic Law for Lawyers and Laymen’ by Anton Fernando, senior Attorney-at-Law, will be launched tomorrow at 5:15 pm at the OPA Auditorium. This is his fifth book.

The Chief Guest will be the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka Wijedasa Rajapakse PC MP, while Guests of Honor will be Walter Ladduwahetty, retired High Court Judge, and Kumar Ekarathne, Additional Secretary , Ministry of Justice. R.M.B. Senanayake will preside at the launch.
Fernando earlier publications are ‘A Guide to Human Rights and the Humanitarian Law,’ ‘The Right to Religious Freedom and Need for a Secular State,’ ‘Constitutional Guarantees for the Minorities are Imperative for Peace’ and ‘A Synopsis of Anti Corruption Laws’.
Fernando is a Past Vice President of the Bar Association for the Kalutara Zone and Past Chairman of the Legal Aid Commission.
The book gives a bird’s eye view of the law relating to statutory offences tribal in the Magistrate Court, anti corruption laws, human rights and public interest litigation. He has also discussed the need for a right to information law and the need for a new law to provide for the recovery of possession of immovable property on the expiry of a lease.
