Who are the captains?
Captains of the six of the seven Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) Provincial Teams were announced yesterday.
They are Basnahira Cricket Dundees (T. M. Dilshan); Kandurata Warriors (Kumar Sangakkara), Nagenahira Nagas (Angelo Mathews), Ruhuna Royals (Lasith Malinga), Uthura Rudras (Jehan Mubarak), and Wayamba United (Mahela Jayawardene). The Captain of Uva Nex is to be confirmed. Among captains are five icon players.
The Captains were chosen in order to spearhead each of their respective teams and work closely with their respective coaches to develop the players with their teams. In addition, this would also give the Captains, further leadership experience, which would only help building their cricketing knowledge incrementally.
“Captaining a team with players who have significant international experience, along with young players who have solely domestic experience, is a challenge for any Captain, and it will be a learning experience for all Captains involved,” Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Ishantha Ranatunga said.
