A certificate course on Port Tariffs and Port Services, developed exclusively by the Shippers’ Academy Colombo, is being conducted to educate the maritime industry professionals at the Sri Lanka Foundation.
The academy developed the course to give a clear understanding to port users the various services provided by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) and how the charges are derived for these services provided by the SLPA.
The course covers port tariffs, the calculation methods of various port services and online payments which are important functions that companies working with the SLPA should know. The three week course covers navigational services, cargo handling, terminal services, storage and rentals, value added logistics services, import, export, transshipment tariffs & conventional/container and automobile tariffs as well.
At the end of the course an optional port tour too is organised for the students to get a practical understanding.
The content covers port related activities of all ports in Sri Lanka and is an essential tool for companies, executives, lawyers in dispute resolutions and others who deal with port related activities.
Knowledge on port tariffs will be a good tool for marketers as wellThis is the first time a course of this nature has been designed and offered in Sri Lanka, and has attracted a great demand from the industry.
The academy has already conducted and finished two batches for this course where over 60 students have completed the course and a third batch is being enrolled which will start on  August 11, 2012.
