Director of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs John Ging has said that Sri Lanka has achieved excellent results in its Northern and Eastern rehabilitation and resettlement programme and post-conflict economic development drive.
The UN diplomat emphasized that other countries with similar problems can learn a lot from Sri Lanka on these issues. Therefore, he mentioned that Sri Lanka should share its experience with other countries. He was speaking during a meeting with Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the Economic Development Ministry.
Mr. Ging said that they would extend every support for the success of the resettlement programme. He was optimistic that the Sri Lankan Government had the ability to settle all issues confronted by the people of the North and East as soon as possible.
Tourism is booming and the economy is progressing well. As such he emphasized that Sri Lanka could achieve all these things within a short period of time because of the country’s able leadership. He added that the most important task now was to rebuild the confidence among the international community about the country and that they would help Sri Lanka to achieve this end.
