Enjoining order issued on 88 UNP WC members including the leader
The Mount Lavinia District Court has issued an enjoining order on 88 members of the UNP Working Committee, including its leader.
United National Party Southern Provincial Councillor Maithri Gunaratne had filed a petition in the Mount Lavinia District Court saying that the amendments made to the Party Constitution on the 19th of last month to hold elections to select a Party leader once in six years is illegal. The petition was taken up for consideration today.
The petition was filed against Party Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and 87 other Working Committee members. District Judge Priyantha Fernando issued an enjoining order on the respondents which is effective until the 22nd of this month. Notices were issued on them to appear in Court on that day.
The petitioner is seeking an order to annul the amendment to the party constitution and declare it null and void.
