Sun Foundation took yet another leap in its philanthropic endeavours by launching its activities including vocational training programme for 200 needy women and children annually in Sri Lanka. Chairman of the Foundation Padma Shri Vikrmajit Sahney, also the President of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), signed the MOU with Iyanporuwe Temple, in Madiwela Sri Jayawadenepure.

The temple is renowned for its charitable pursuits. Dr. Nimal Hettiarachchi signed the MOU on behalf of the Temple authorities. Vikramjit is currently in Sri Lanka as member of CEO delegation led by Indian Minister of Commerce, Industry and Textile Shri Anand Sharma. He  took this opportunity to launch its philanthropic initiatives at Colombo as part of his pledge to extend this support to all SAARC countries on his taking over the presidency of SCCI and is proving by delivering his ‘word of honour’.
This is the second such initiative of Sun Foundation in SAARC Countries, the first being in Nepal where the foundation is supporting the education and vocational training of poor and needy girls of St. Mary’s school at Lubo, Nepal.
The foundation is also at finalisation stage of starting these programs at Bangladesh and Pakistan.  In the second stage, Sun Foundation would widen its reach to the rest of member countries of SAARC.
Sahney’s belief in life, “Extending one hand to help somebody has more value than joining two hands for prayer.”
Vikramjit also called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
As Sun Group Chairman he announced setting up of a phosphatic plant in Sri Lanka, and stated that Indian companies are looking at low cost housing and other infrastructure projects in Sri Lanka.
Both the sides are extremely buoyant in their aspirations and bilateral boost to the trade which is the need of the hour.
