Youth Fest 2012 takes off this August
The second annual Youth Fest is set to take place from 24 to 26 August at the MAS Institute of Management Technology, Thulhiriya.
The three day event, which looks to promote experiential learning amongst the youth in Sri Lanka, will have over 250 participants ranging from university undergraduates and school leavers, to members of varied youth organisations. Over 50 of the participants will also be flying in from outside Sri Lanka to take part in the event.
With a vision to be the best experiential learning platform in South Asia for youth, the inaugural Youth Fest conference was held in November 2011. The event is organised by a group of vibrant young volunteers from Earth Dream International (EDI), AIESEC Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Youth (National Youth Services Council). The speakers at the event will consist of accomplished members of the corporate sector, social sector as well as politicians, trainers and international presenters.
This year’s theme is ‘Celebrating Youth’, and the conference will don a celebratory garb and play up activities that show how fun learning can be. Some of the focus areas of the conference include personal development, leadership, entrepreneurship, sports, aesthetics and entertainment, social issues, finding common solutions and sustainability.
On these topics, the conference provides opportunities for successful young individuals to share their stories and experiences, and some of the lessons that have come out of them; be it in volunteering, entrepreneurship, music, art, innovation or anything that has made an impact.
“Our sessions are designed to inspire youth to be systemic in their learning, and applying their knowledge innovatively in real life situations,” said Sahan Hannadige, one of the Co-founders of Youth Fest. “Considering the different life experiences of the participants, we also have a session for youth to think beyond their daily living and incorporate learning to live together consciously in their lives.”
Some of the Youth Fest activities will include a case study competition, team building activities, interactive sessions, and theme nights, talent shows, parties and a global village to showcase the cultures and talents of global youth.
“The overall objective of the festival is to inspire today’s youth to reach their collective and individual aspirations,” said Damith Samarakoon, one of the Co-founders. “Our vision is to provide the best experiential learning platform available within South Asia for youth, thereby enabling the younger generation to be equipped with what it takes to fulfil their dreams and aspirations both materialistically and spiritually”. Bates Strategic Alliance will be the strategic communications partner for Youth Fest 2012.
