SLPL organizers say lack of crowds in the stadium is not an issue
The organizers of the Sri Lanka Premier League says lack of crowds in the stadium to watch the ongoing SLPL is not an issue as far as the product remains quality.
This was said by Sandiip Bhammer, the Chairman of the Somerset Entertainment Ventures which holds the rights to organize the SLPL for several more years partnering Sri Lanka Cricket.
Bhammer, when questioned by News360.lk agreed that the crowds to watch the matches have been poor, but said despite the poor crowd attendance the tournament is a world class one.
“ I am very satisfied it’s a world class tournament, franchises are happy and the world is saying it’s a great product’ added Bhammer.
He also said, “The only thing missing is the crowd”
Sri Lanka Premier League saw some considerable crowds coming into witness the first few games which were held during the last weekend.
“we got around 10 to 15,000 spectators for a night match” added Bhammer.
However the situation changed with poor crowd attendance for the rest of the matches held during the week days.
Bhammer also said that it is difficult to expect large crowds when you hold several matches in the same city.
However, he is hoping the crowd attendance to come good with the tournament shifting its focus to Kandy.
After a two day break, the SLPL will commence today with the next nine games to be played at Pallekelle.
