Former Chiefs of Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) Indrani Sugathadasa and immediate past Chairman Thilak Karunaratne will soon be summoned in front of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) to testify with the proposed motion expected to be moved today (22) at Parliament by the main opposition United National Party (UNP).

UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake yesterday requested the opportunity from Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa to bring in this motion, which will enable COPE to further investigate and identify the “17 individuals engaged in stock market malpractices” and the “mafia activities of the said group”.
“The former Chairman of SEC Thilak Karunaratne met us at the COPE last week. Based on the brief discussion we had with him, it was understood that there is a serious issue, which needs urgent attention. But before we had the time to discuss further, he submitted his resignation. Based on the facts that led to his resignation, I request the Speaker to summon Indrani Sugathadasa and Thilak Karunaratne to COPE,” said Karunanayake.
