Q; What was the feeling when you got to know you are in the World Twenty20 Squad?
A: It was a big surprise, as I wasn’t even in the initial 30 man squad. I was really happy. It’s one of the happiest moments and a dream comes through.

Q: Do you think the SLPL helped you to get there?
A: Yes the SLPL is a great opportunity for youngsters like me to prove ourselves on the big stage. As it’s the 1st time we are having this SLPL, it’s very exciting. Even Akila (Dananjaya) is in the squad. So this is fantastic.

Q: Tell us something about your past cricketing background?
A: I started my cricket at Nalanda College; I opened batting for the Sri Lankan under 19 team. Then went on to join Bloomfield C & AC and played for the under 23 and premier sides.  And I was a part of the Sri Lankan “A” side in 2010 to Australia as well. .

Q: Before the SLPL got underway there was a lot of expectation about you been a hard hitting batsman etc… How did you react to that?
A: I was looking forward to this SLPL. I was happy to hear about it, it was challenge to me to perform. I didn’t change my style, I continued to play the way I know and will continue to do so.

Q: Your father was a past cricketer too?
A: Yes my father played 1st class cricket for Tamil union.  He was also in the Sri Lankan pool at one time. It is said he is a very good cricketer. He gives me tips and tactics and helps me a lot mentally for matches etc. He gives me the strength and confidence to perform.

Q: Tell us something about UVA NEXT?
A: It is a good team. A very good environment. Players like Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Shoaib Malik, Jacob Oram and all the international players are so helpful with their experience. All internationals help me in preparation etc… The crowds turning up, the SLPL is totally different to our domestic cricket.  I hope the SLPL will be a success and continues for years to come.

Q: How has it been to be coached by Robin Singh?
A: He is a very good person. An amazing person and it is a great privilege to work with him. Was a very good player. I used to watch him as a kid. It’s a dream to work under him and share the same dressing room.

Q: Will we see both Dilshan’s opening for Sri Lanka soon?
A:Never know. But I will love the opportunity. I hope so. It will be fantastic and good for Sri Lankan cricket.

Q: Hope to play Test Cricket some day??
A: I have not thought of it yet. Will take it step by step. Will see how it goes in the future.

Q: Cricketing Heroes?

A: Aravinda De Silva was my childhood hero. And Sachin Tendulkar, wish and hope I could play with him some day.
