Sri Lanka’s government debt rises to Rs. 5,902 billion
Sri Lanka’s total outstanding government debt has risen to Rs. 5,902 billion by May this year, compared to Rs. 4,800 billion stood at May 2011.
Out of this, Rs. 2759.7 billion consists of foreign debt while Rs 3,142.5 billion consists of domestic debt.
Foreign debt which stood at Rs. 2,071 billion by May 2011 has gone up to Rs. 2,759.7 billion by May 2012.
Out of the total domestic debt, the government has borrowed Rs. 1,985.5 billion by selling treasury bonds, while Rs. 694 billion has been borrowed via selling treasury bills.
