Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the national telecommunications provider, today proudly unveils the ‘Abhimaana’ broadband package designed exclusively for Government sector employees and pensioners. SLT believes that Government sector employees are the lifeblood of the nation and that their tireless contribution is powering Sri Lanka’s march towards prosperity and progress.

The Government sector employees are the ‘abhimaana’; pride of the nation – and this high speed broadband package has been launched as a token of gratitude to their untiring efforts. The package is denoted by the ‘nil manel’ or blue lotus, the national flower of Sri Lanka. At the core of the flower is the blossoming new era of peace and prosperity that Sri Lanka is experiencing currently, while the Government sector employees are like the petals, which protect and enable the flower to blossom and grow.
SLT Group Chairman Nimal Welgama commented on this historic launch stating, “In keeping with the aim of the ‘Mahinda Chinthana’ of bringing back glory to Sri Lanka as a centre which disseminates knowledge, SLT has devised this broadband package exclusively for Government employees and pensioners. Sri Lanka can become a knowledge hub and the Abhimaana package is a giant step ahead for employees of the Government sector to enhance IT literacy and to make 100% IT literacy a reality in the public sector which employs thousands of employees across the country. SLT partners the growth of the nation and we are hopeful this package serves as a sincere mark of our respect to the valuable contribution made by public sector employees.”
In accordance with the pioneering vision of the ‘Mahinda Chinthana’ in developing ICT literacy in the country, the Government of Sri Lanka has been undertaking many initiatives to transform this vision intro reality. As the largest telecommunications provider, SLT is playing a key role in supporting the Government’s vision by fostering innovation and driving IT literacy.
SLT CEO Greg Young said, “The SLT Abhimaana broadband package will offer a superior broadband experience to Government sector employees. We believe that IT education should be inclusive and Abhimaana will help bridge the digital divide in the country. Abhimaana will showcase SLT’s superior broadband platform complete with higher data volumes and offering consistent, uninterrupted, high-speed internet access. SLT has pioneered broadband in the country and has been propelled ahead as the number one ISP in the country to provide dedicated broadband for customers. As the national telecommunications provider it is part of our mandate to support the Government’s vision of providing IT access to all Sri Lankans by the year 2015. And with the launch of the Abhimaana package, I believe we are moving one step closer to this vision.”
SLT Chief Marketing Officer Roshan Kaluarachchi speaking about the package said, “The Abhimaana package will be available to all Government sector employees and pensioners at a monthly rental of Rs. 390.  The package offers data speeds up to 2mbps and usage of 1.5GB with 0.5GB free volume monthly. Our aim is to enable Government employees and pensioners easy access to the worldwide web with SLT Megaline, giving them the highest quality voice, consistent, uninterrupted high speed internet and interactive television facilities across the country.”
The Abhimaana campaign will be launched as a holistic 360-degree campaign that will meet customers at every touch point in a bid to forge closer bonds with customers.
