President Rajapaksa has inaugurated several projects for the benefit of the public in the Trincomalee District.
The President declared open a new four storeyed wards complex of the Trincomalee General Hospital this morning. The expenditure incurred on this building was 500 million rupees. It is equipped with a Maternity Clinic, a Children’s Unit, an Intensive Care Unit and an Operation Theatre with all facilities.
The Wards Complex has a bed strength of 625. Launched in 1938, the Trincomalee Base Hospital is one of the oldest Hospitals in the island. Minister Maithripala Sirisena was among those present.

Meanwhile, the President also declared open the Trincomalee Central Fish Market Complex today. It costs 101 million rupees. The complex consists of 64 stalls, a conference hall, Banks, a post office, a fisheries office, cafeterias and all modern facilities are provided. The complex has cooling rooms with a total capacity of 35 tons with a car park and a machine to destroy waste and garbage. Minister Rajitha Senaratne and Deputy Minister Susantha Punchinilame were present.
