A flyover for Weyangoda
The construction of a flyover has started in Weyangoda to find an urgent solution for the traffic congestion.
The Government has decided to construct a flyover in Weyangoda as a solution to the traffic congestion experienced in Weyangoda town for a long time. The construction work is being carried out causing minimum damage to the environment on the consensus of all people. Minister Basil Rajapaksa said that plans have been drawn to complete the construction within one year.
He said that every effort has been made to minimize damage to the environment. The Minister called on the Secretary to the Ministry of Ports and Highways and the contractors to complete the project in 12 months instead of 18 months. The Road Development Authority is carrying out the constructions on the behest of the Ministry of Highways at the expenditure of 2 billion rupees. The flyover will be 315 metres in length and10.4 metres in width. The road development authority said that the delays caused daily by 96 train services will be eliminated by the flyover. Deputy Ministers Sarana Gunawardena, Nirmala Kotalawala, Lasantha Alagiyawanna and Provincial Council Minister Nimal Lansa were amongst those who participated in the occasion.
