New era in bilateral relations between Norway and Sri Lanka
A new era in bilateral relations between Norway and Sri Lanka is in the offing. The Norwegian Government has said that investment opportunities in Sri Lanka which is advancing despite the global economic downturn will be of immense benefit to it.
Norway’s new Ambassador to Sri Lanka Grete Lochen made this reference when she paid a courtesy call on Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the Economic Development Ministry. Their discussions centred on future economic and trade relations between the two countries. Minister Rajapaksa said that trade sanctions against Iran had resulted in severe impacts on the Sri Lankan economy. But he said that they had been able to maintain continuous development due to proper financial management.
The Norwegian diplomat assured continued support of her Government to development in Sri Lanka. She said that they would also focus special attention on the development of the fisheries and tourism industries as well as on investment opportunities.
Thanking the Norwegian Government for the maintenance of economic and trade cooperation with Sri Lanka, Minister Rajapaksa said relations between the two countries had further strengthened due to economic and political stability and the progress achieved by the two countries in bilateral relations.
