Fathima Muslim Ladies College holds 2012 academic high achievers awards day

Fathima Halidha, a Fathima Muslim Ladies College 2011 AL Examination Bio Stream student, who secured an astonishing Z-Score of 3.0, with an all island ranking number three and district ranking of number two having achieved three straight A’s in all the three subjects of biology, chemistry and physics, who is to undergo degree in medicine in the Faculty of Medicine, in the University of Colombo, was specially recognised by their Old Girls Association on their College Awards Day 2012 held to recognise Academic High Achiever’s students who have excelled at Advanced Level Examination and those who have excelled at National Level on 16 September at Tower Hall, Maradana. Past Principals and Past Teacher’s were also recognised for their service excellence from the year 2002 onwards.

Old Girls Association President Fathima Husna was also specially recognised for having received National recognition by annexing the Upali Wijewardena Excellence award in Tamil journalism in the Print Media for the year 2011. Husna was also the recipient for best Tamil Medical reporting in 2110 and Social Development Reporting in year 2009.
15 Old Girls who gained entrance to the Universities since 2002 to various faculties from Medical, Arts, Computer Management, Law, Business Administration to Commerce, etc were recognised for their academic excellence achievements. Additional eight students gained entrance to the Sri Lanka Law College, seven of them gained admission in the last three years clearly placing Fathima College as the sought after Muslim Girls school of the future.
The Chief Guest Dr. M.L.M. Rayes, MD, who is the Chairman of Insight Education Trust, Consultant Paediatrician, Professorial Paediatric Unit, Teaching Hospital, Anuradhapura, Senior Lecturer and Head, Department of Paediatrics, Rajarataa University in his address said Read and Understand is the first revelation in the Quran that talks about both kinds of knowledge of the contemporary world and the knowledge that cannot be learned by pen of which the one and only source is revelations.
He said women in Islam has excelled since 1500 years starting from Fathima, (Raliallahu Anha) the wife of Prophet Muhammad who excelled in business and Aysha  (Raliallahu Anha) who was considered as a walking encyclopaedia. He said that a deep study of Quranic verses suggests that to attain the higher Quranic standards of knowledge’ one should have a deep understanding of contemporary sciences so that Allah’s signs that are abundantly clear in all areas of modern sciences are understood at its molecular level and reflected upon.
Furthermore the one who is knowledgeable is the one who by gaining an insight of Sharia knowledge with clear understanding of Almighty Allah and His creations. His creations, reflects, on amazing sciences and signs of the world and the reflection draws him/her closer to Almighty Allah making him/her to live a life ever conscious of the creator Almighty Allah (Thaqwa).
Guests of Honour, Dr. Firdousiya Niyas, MBBS, MD, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Mulleriyawa Base Hospital said it is important that Muslim Ladies excel in their Academic Achievements so as to produce Professionals and Academics so that they can be exclusively serve Ladies by Ladies such as in Gynaecology.
Guest of Honour Shabir Mohamed Hashim, a Leadership and Motivational Trainer and Vice President of Sri Lanka Muslim Students Federation gave an excellent presentation based on the theme Challenge for Change giving an outline as to how to manage the service quality gaps and how brand positioning could be done to achieve the lead to become the Leading Muslim Girls College.
The vote of thanks was given by OGA Secretary Hafsa Faiz who is a third year political studies undergraduate in the University of Colombo.
